Course Overview:
The Trenching and Excavation Safety Training course is designed to educate workers and supervisors on the hazards associated with trenching and excavation activities and the proper safety procedures to prevent incidents. This course covers OSHA standards, hazard recognition, protective systems, soil classification, and the responsibilities of a Competent Person on excavation sites.
Participants will gain the knowledge needed to identify unsafe conditions, implement protective measures, and ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P—Excavations.
Course Objectives:
Understand OSHA regulations related to trenching and excavation
Identify common trenching and excavation hazards, including cave-ins, falls, and hazardous atmospheres
Learn soil classification methods and the impact of soil types on trench stability
Explore the use and limitations of protective systems, including sloping, shoring, and shielding
Understand the role and responsibilities of the Competent Person
Learn inspection procedures and emergency response protocols
Review safe access/egress requirements and best practices for working in or near excavations
